SAP 5O5 World Championships

Sailing San Francisco Bay

The 2009 SAP 5O5 World Championships and North American Championships are coming to the St. Francis Yacht Club Sunday, August 16th through Sunday, August 30th. With more than 180 competitors from around the world, initial entries include 2008 World champions Ian Pinnell/Carl Gibbon; 2008 European and 2007 North American champion Ethan Bixby sailing with Australian legend Simon Gorman and 2006/2007 Australian champions Michael Quirk/Geoff Lange.



The 2009 SAP 5O5 World Championship will be sailed on the eastern reach of San Francisco Bay, in a zone that is relatively shallow and relatively tide-protected. Being free of the narrow rivers of current and countercurrent found in deeper parts of the bay, and clear of the shipping channels, these waters are prime for championship competition. 5O5s, Stars, Farr 40s and many other classes have raced here for major titles.
